A visit from Annie!

What an great weekend! Annie came down from MA on Wednesday for a visit pre-college-move-in, which is not something that is done all that frequently, and thus, the weekend was all the more fun and exciting. On Wednesday we went to Pine Creek, a mini golf course that is groomed like a traditional course, and then -- slowed down by the sticky heat -- we decided to go out for dinner at Teresa's, where Annie has a more than natural obsession with the chocolate dessert pizza :) Thursday was a delight as well, particularly because my econ class was cancelled and I was able to spend that time with Annie. We went shopping and picked up Chinese take out, and then we went to "Little Shop of Horrors" here on campus. The show was simply wonderful and had us laughing and captivated from the start. Friday was a long day: Annie dyed her hair "raspberry" blue, which took most of the afternoon. Then we went into NYC, where Zach met us. We dropped our things off at his apartment down by St. Mark's Place and went over to the Blue Note where we were comped tix to see the Clark Terry Big Band. It was a brilliant show! And afterward, we were introduced to the band and its many great musicians. On Saturday we went to the MOMA, which always has great things on display. The current special exhibit is on Dadaism. Afterward, Zach had to work; Annie hung out with a friend in the city; and I worked on some economics reading. That night Ann had a wonderful summer apartment party with friends of hers from high school, Princeton and work. Around midnight, I went over to Avatar to pick Zach up from work, and because it was quiet in the studios, Zach was able to show me around. It was amazing! I don't know entirely what I expected it all to look like, but this reminded me in many ways of a crazy wood paneled sauna. Today I got up on the early end of the day for a fantastic brunch with Josh up at Sarabeth's on the upper west side. The food was very good, and the company was even better. Back at Zach's, we spent the afternoon watching season one of Little Britain (which you should go rent, if you haven't seen already!). I had to come back to Princeton to work on packing for my big move, but Zach and Annie are certainly still entertaining each other...especially when one of them has electric blue hair!!

Another Yalie Weekend

By pure luck, last weekend was Caroline's grand ol' 24th birthday AND I had no commitments in other cities, states or countries! As soon as we wrapped up QUEST and picked up everything on Friday, I drove away -- just as a huge HUGE huge thunderstorm started. Oh well! At least I was in the car seconds before it began pouring buckets. The weekend was a success as always, full of fun and excitement. Friday night was pre-arrival of most everyone else, so I had Miss C all to myself for storytelling and catching up. On Saturday we filled the day with all sorts of girly wonder and adventure. That night Caroline had a big group over for a variety of cakes and drinks. I'm really enjoying getting to know the people that she hangs out with at Yale, especially since it makes the hearing her stories all the more interesting! We closed out the night with dancing out at a bar downtown, followed by lots of sleep upon our return home.

Mom and me out at Mie N Yu in Georgetown!

How is already the end of July??

So I was cleaning my room and going through various paperwork when I realized that it is indeed almost the end of July. Which is incredibly scary, because come the 5th of August I will be moving all my things to DC and then there will be a whirlwind of training, orientation, and meeting new people all mixed in with two weddings back (soooo excited for those!). Somewhere in the midst of all of this I am supposed to be finishing up my Microecon course too, and a week earlier than everyone else in my course! At least work is quieting down, particularly since QUEST came to a close last Friday. I promptly hopped into my red Jetta and spent the weekend in New Haven for Caroline's birthday, which was a lovely excursion and grand adventure all at the same time. Tomorrow Annie's coming down from Boston, which means that Zach and I have been cooking up a storm of fantastic ideas for things to do and see. Yay! I'm probably more excited for it all than she is :) Oooh and in other news, it is about 99.999999999% certain that Jess and I -- and hopefully a few other friends -- will be ringing in the New Year from Barcelona. How cool is that??

Georgetown!

I did it! I found a great new place in Georgetown that's not ueber-expensive AND right near campus AND has a back patio AND has a washer and dryer AND has what will henceforth be lovingly referred to as "The Lodge." The apartment market in DC is enough to make most people sick, and at the end of the day yesterday, we came to the realization that there really were only about a half dozen open 1 bedroom places within a 5 minute drive to campus, i.e. about a 15-25 minute walk. By chance I saw an ad posted by an incoming Med. student, who'd found a 2 bedroom townhouse 3 blocks north of campus, and on a whim I emailed. Turns out the house is in a pretty little area just above campus, literally .23 miles away. Yes we calculated :) It has a fireplace and big tall ceilings, and with a bit of creativity it is going to be a great new spot to live with plenty of space for visitors, so the next time you're around (post-August 15th!), stop on by 1928 35th Place.

Summer Fun

Yesterday morning, I climbed into my little red Jetta and went on a mini-constitutional excursion to New Haven. Caroline's got a lovely apartment with a fellow Yalie named Julia, and they are being so kind as to allow me a spot on the couch, use of their wireless, and open access to all sorts of tastiness. We spent yesterday hanging out after getting sandwiches and browsing a variety of tag sales nearby. Later on they invited over a bunch of friends and we had watermelon and cocktails out on the porch, which was a grand idea since the weather was quite agreeable and the company was entertaining. The whole night was a lot of fun and full of stories and laughter. Today Caroline and I went out for some breakfast at The Pantry, which was the perfect way to start the day. Afterwards, we came home and got Julia, and then we all went out to the movies to see The Devil Wears Prada, which was even better than I expected! Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway made quite the pairing.
